LOVE ME KNOT:
“A union of spirits, an offering of love, a bond of infinite value and enduring ties, lifting two souls to the sacred meeting place between heaven and earth” – Carrie Flintom, Pam Rundquist

A knot is a compact interlacing which ties and bonds two strands of materials together. A knot can weave two single threads together into something so strong that nothing can ever break its strength. To tie a simple knot is an uncomplicated process to learn, yet it is crucial in holding together even the most priceless and extraordinary things. There are countless types of knots, but they are always used to tie or hold something together in a unifying bond.

Now take that idea of a knot and all it’s purpose, and turn it into a “Love Knot.” A Love Knot is an act of love and caring directed at another human being. By freely giving Love Knots to another person, we literally fold our spiritual arms around them through our words and deeds. With every small knot we tie, we strengthen the bonds of kinship. The more knots we tie, the stronger the connection. The process is eternally ongoing.

As you go through your day, think of giving “Love knots” to tie together the bonds of those around you. The opportunties to tie “love knots” are everywhere! Trust that with each knot you tie, you are strengthening the connection to another person as well as yourself.

Here are just a few suggestions to get you started!

– Give a compliment
– Smile at a stranger
– Tip 5% more than normal
– Say “I’m sorry”
– Share your talents
– Be a good listener
– Call an old friend
– Say I love you to someone new
– Give a co-worker a fun little “something” anonymously
– Let someone cut in front of you on the road

HAVE FUN WITH IT!!!!

I was excited to read this interesting article in the New York Times, and I felt it perfect to share with you all on this first day of 2010. In the article, John Tierney looks into the all-so-common phenomenon of postponing pleasure. We all get those gift certificates that expire as we kept putting off going into the shop to redeem them. We don’t take that vacation we’ve been thinking about for ages, don’t cash in our frequent flier miles, and don’t open that special bottle of wine. AND the longer we put it off, the harder it is to get around to doing it! Scientists have been doing research on the topic, but what it all boils down to is — we need to give ourselves deadlines for our “fun activities,” — or chances are, you’ll avoid them forever.

So — I wish you all a happy, healthy, prosperous new year, full of gratitude, and love, and FUN!

I was moved by two quotations of Mother Teresa’s.

“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then just feed one.”

“We cannot do great things on this Earth, only small things with great love.”

It’s winter, the economic times are really tough for a lot us, and yet, almost all of us have the ability to help someone else who may have a greater need than our own. Sometimes all of the sorrow and anguish that exists in the world can seem overwhelming. We think, “what good can my small donation be?” Not so. Everything helps. And as we help others, we help ourselves. Generosity, selflessness, is an act of our humanity.

As such, two completely modern, ingenious ways to give to charity came across my path this week. One gives shoes to third-world children. The other, gives books to the same needy kids around the world. Read a little bit about TOMS Shoes (every pair you buy, a pair gets donated), and Room To Read and the Fledgling Wine initiative launched between Crushpad and twitter (every $20 bottle of wine you buy, $5 goes to books for kids).

Happy winter to you all!

Does this quotation sound familiar?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.”

Often mistakenly attributed to Nelson Mandela, it is really the brainchild of Marianne Williamson, a spiritual activist, author, and lecturer, who has become something of an American Guru. Perhaps the biggest selling self-help book of all time, A Return to Love was one of the first books ever endorsed by Oprah Winfrey and spent more than 39 weeks on the New York Times best sellers list.

And rightly so.

Her first of nine books, A Return to Love is based on her experiences as a teacher and lecturer on the self-study guide A Course in Miracles. Williamson shares her insights into how the practical application of love every day can provide an answer to the problems that confront us, whether these are in our relationships, our careers or our health.

The book is honest and inspiring, and it has changed many lives. Some have even described it as unearthing a treasure. We often forget that the concept of joy is also a part of the human condition. William explains that we must cultivate happiness.

I highly recommend A Return To Love, and hope that if you’ve not yet read it, you’ll enjoy it, too. Here is the complete famed quotation to inspire you:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
